HIMO ICT CENTRE
We Change Lives
The Moshi Institute of Technology (MIT HIMO) is giving computer and English lessons to primary school students (age 7-13) and to secondary school students (age 14-20). There are courses for beginners and advanced.
Topics taught include the use of a PC, hard and software, internet and email ("Become an e-citizen!"), computer maintenance and repair.
In the afternoon there are courses for adults. Most of them are employees from the lower and middle income bands who want to improve their IT qualifications. Besides the topics mentioned above there are also courses offered in bookkeeping and becoming a secretary.
The institute is located at two sites of Moshi and Himo Town. Both of them are connected to Internet via broadband. Together they have around 40 computers, most of which are Pentium 1 to Pentium 3 PCs that have been donated.
Volunteers are needed who can give English and/or IT introductory classes to beginners or who can teach special computer applications such as website creation, digital photography and digital video.
The English lessons include speaking, reading, writing and Grammar for beginner's and advanced level. Besides the computer lessons, volunteers can assist in further educational initiatives which are taking place in villages outside of Moshi Town.
These include theoretical and practical courses in farming at a farm school, reading, writing and basic English skills.
